Shockwave for Achilles Tendinopathy in Cambridge
Achilles Tendinopathy is pain arising from inflammation of the achilles tendon just above the back of the heel bone.
How Shockwave Reduces Inflammation and Stimulates Healing in Achilles Tendinopathy
Achilles tendinits (tendinopathy) can happen whether or not you are an athlete or sportsperson. The tendon begins an inflammatory process which doesn't stop, causing pain during or after activity, pain and stiffness first thing on the morning and even just getting up from a chair.
.
Shockwave begins a biological process within the tendon, turning the tendon from a state of degeneration to one of regeneration. These changes include the formation of new blood vessels and increasing the number of tenocytes which repair the tendon.

Examination and Treatment - what to expect
Your Chartered Phsyiotherapist will give you a full examination and clinical diagnosis and discuss the findings in detail.
If you have achilles tendonitis they will then give you treatment options which normally include extracorporeal radial shockwave (ESWT) and simple strengthening and stretching exercises. If you agree, you can have your first treatment there and then. The exercises help to strengthen the tendon and prevent recurrence once the pain is cured.
