Shockwave for Hip Pain in Cambridge
Greater Trochanteric pain is pain felt at the back and side of the hip, often into the top of the buttock (gluteal) region.
How Shockwave Reduces Inflammation and Stimulates Healing in the Hip
Pain and inflammation around the hip caused by the tendons and ligaments can be very disabling. Eventually people feel as though their walking distance reduces and even sitting can become painful. Exercises sometimes help but often the pain is so strong that people find them difficult.
there is excellent evidence that Shockwave treats the tendons and ligaments by creating bioligical changes within them, changing them from inflammatory/degenerative to non-inflammatory and regenerative.
We sometimes use Acupuncture here as it is proven to be clinically effective and in our expererience the combination of shockwave and acupuncture can be more effective than shockwave alone

Examination and Treatment -What to Expect
Your Chartered Physiotherapist will give you a full examination and clinical diagnosis and discuss the outcome in detail.
It is important to be able to tell the difference between muscle/tendon pain, pain from an arthritic hip and referred pain from the back. As Chartered Physiotherapists we have the skills and experience necessary to do this.
If we find that the pain is coming from the tendons and ligaments we may prescribe shockwave and if you agree, you can have your first session there and then. you wil be given gentle exercises to help prevent recurrence
It may take 3-4 treatments to feel an improvement due to the depth of the tissues involved
